“Truth in Color” explores the intersecting stories of Frida Kahlo and Vanessa Severo, highlighting how art serves as a powerful tool for self-expression and resistance. Moderated by IRT’s Director of Inclusion & Community Partnerships Devon Ginn, our panel featuring Beatriz Vásquez, Nicole Martinez-LeGrand, and Daniel Del Real explores art’s capacity to challenge the ever-present effects of settler colonialism and cultivate solidarity across the Latin diaspora.
Join us as we delve into the intersecting lives of two remarkable women – the iconic Mexican visual artist Frida Kahlo and Brazilian playwright and actress Vanessa Severo. Dive deeper into the themes of Frida … A Self Portrait and connect with fellow audience members moved by Kahlo’s and Severo’s stories. Together, we will explore the role of art in questioning and reshaping our views on identity while celebrating the strength found in authenticity and the shared human experience.
